My Lucky’s Back and..

by HVLong on October 30, 2009

I know some fans are deeply saddened by Greg Vaughan leaving the show and I saw his tweet about it, but I also saw that he’s already earned a part on the new 90210 and the actor had lots of work before GH, he will likely have lots of work after. As a long-time fan of the ABC drama General Hospital I am thrilled to have Jackson return.

For those of you who don’t remember him as clearly, Jackson began appearing on GH in 1994 at the tender age of 11 years old. He was the wise-cracking, hip son of supercouple Luke and Laura Spencer. He was the apple of their eye and Jackson’s talent earned him three Daytime Emmy awards.

During his time on GH, Jackson’s Lucky took on mobsters and Edward Quartermaine with equal aplomb. His world was rocked by the introduction of Nikolas, his mother’s other son that he’d never known about and rocked by further revelations that his father whom he idolized had once raped his mother, whom he adored.

That storyline was told in tandem with Lucky helping Elizabeth, who he found shaking and trembling in the icy cold park after a snow. He and Elizabeth had a snarky, hate-hate relationship going on because of Lucky’s thing for her sister Sarah, but after spending months befriending, helping and working with the traumatized Elizabeth, they fell in love.

In 1999, after Jackson’s exit, fans mourned alongside Elizabeth believing that Lucky died in a fire. Although two talented actors Jacob Young and Greg Vaughan both came in to play Lucky, I never saw them as Lucky. Sadly, I always saw them as Jacob Young’s Lucky and later Vaughan’s Lucky.  Jonathon Jackson’s return feels like Lucky rising from decade cold ashes and I am so excited to have him back. More on Lucky, Elizabeth, Nikolas this week.

Welcome back Lucky:
