Where Is Everwood Filmed
From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas
Many viewers think it's Colorado, but that’s not the correct answer to the question: “Where is Everwood filmed?”
Where is Everwood Filmed?—The Answer
While the characters on the now defunct soap opera set up shop in the fictional town of Everwood, Colorado, the actual show was shot in a variety of small cities in northern Utah.
Ogden
Forget about TV magic; the bulk of Everwood’s scenes were shot far from the back lots of major Hollywood studios. Producers took their cameras to the real-life streets of Ogden, Utah. For four seasons the quiet town, located about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, served as the backdrop for Everwood, which starred Treat Williams as workaholic neurosurgeon Andrew Brown. The warm-hearted primetime series used Ogden’s Historic 25th Street as its downtown area. In addition, Ogden High School and Kirt's Family Drive-In in North Ogden were also background staples on the show, and to this day they still attract camera-toting Everwood fans to the area.
Draper
Unless you are a local, you probably didn’t know that the outside of Everwood High School is really Juan Diego Catholic High School in Draper, Utah. The school’s interior and exterior were prominently displayed in a number of Everwoodscenes, which featured 15-year-old Ephram Brown (played by Gregory Smith) and his classmates.
Park City
Other classroom scenes were shot at a local high school in Park City, Utah. The former Winter Olympic city served as the backdrop for one of Bright Abbott’s (played by Chris Pratt) high school basketball games. Park City was also the location where producers shot the party scene in which Amy Abbott (played by Emily VanCamp) found out that Tommy Callahan (played by Paul Wesley) was dealing drugs. The setting for that particular scene was shot in a seven-million dollar Park City mansion.
Salt Lake City
Rather than fly to Hollywood to shoot interior scenes, Everwood producers rented out several giant warehouses in Salt Lake City. The buildings housed the sets for:
- Dr. Brown’s office
- The Brown’s living room, kitchen and bedrooms
- Delia Brown’s classroom
- Delia’s principal’s office
- Interior of Mama Joy’s diner
- Motel rooms
Pleasant Grove
Everwood producers reportedly fell in love with Pleasant Grove, Utah. The picturesque town, located about 70 miles from Ogden, was used for the show’s many breathtaking exterior shots. In fact, the great view of the mountains seen in episodes, which featured Dr. Brown’s office, was shot in Pleasant Grove.
Why Utah?
Everwood creator Greg Berlanti wanted a "Norman Rockwell" feel for his family-oriented show and reportedly chose Utah because it provided the warmth, charm and natural beauty he was looking for. Utah’s serene setting is an important component of the show. As loyal fans know, Dr. Brown uproots his family from bustling Manhattan and moves them to the mountain community of Everwood because his late wife had told him of her emotional attachment to it. What’s more, many of the show’s story lines deal with the conflicts facing the Brown family as they adjust to their new setting.
Other Locations
Everwood’s pilot episode was filmed in Canmore, Alberta, Canada due to the 2002 Winter Olympics being held in Utah. Shortly after the games wrapped, Everwood cast and crew members descended upon “The Beehive State” to begin filming season one.
However, in answering the question: “Where is Everwood filmed?” loyal fans of the show know that Ogden is only partially correct. Several Everwood episodes were also filmed in:
- New York City
- Magna, Utah
- Springville, Utah
- South Slat Lake, Utah
- Denver, Colorado
- Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Gone But Not Forgotten
When Everwood was cancelled in 2006, its warehouse sets were demolished and film crews left the area. However, despite its exit from TV in the United States, Everwood’s legacy lives on. Utah tourist officials say fans continue to visit Ogden and the surrounding areas to snap photos of landmarks used in the series.
