The True Blood theme song is sung by country singer Jace Everett. Everett released his first single in 2005. His self-titled debut album came out in 2006. Bad Things is one of the singles on his first album.

Bad Things: True Blood Theme Song

Everett’s Bad Things struck chords with producers and fans alike as the True Blood theme song. Even critics who were less than impressed with the show’s debut in 2008, labeled the theme song fun and appropriate (Entertainment Weekly). The opening lyrics invite viewers into the atmosphere of the sultry Louisiana bayous that provide the backdrop for True Blood’s steamy storytelling.

The series is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. Most of the principal characters live in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Bon Temps, which means good times in French, is located in the northern part of the state near Shreveport. The area sees about 52 inches of rain a year annually, with the rain evenly distributed throughout the year increasing the humidity so that it always seems hotter than it is.

When You Came In the Air Went Out

The opening lines of Bad Things can refer to a lot of first meetings in True Blood, but seem particularly indicative of Bill Compton’s first trip to Merlotte’s Bar where he meets telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse. Bill’s vampire nature fascinates Sookie in particular because she can’t hear his thoughts. He is the only person she has ever encountered whose thoughts are shouting at her.

Vampire Bill is equally enchanted with Sookie, particularly when she takes on a pair of drainers to save his life. He later returns the favor when the drainers attack her, nearly killing her. He uses his blood (vampire blood is very restorative) to heal her. Sookie and Bill soon embark on a romantic relationship that takes Sookie further into the world of vampires. In season two, Sookie struggles with Bill’s newly made daughter, an attack by a vicious creature, a near kidnapping and work for the local vampire sheriff Eric that takes her to Dallas.

Bad Things with You

Arguably all of the characters in True Blood have things to hide or bad things they are up to. Tara is struggling with a life of abuse at the hands of her alcoholic mother. Haunted by her own inner demons, a con artist takes her for several hundred dollars to exorcise her mother and herself. The con artist turns up dead at the beginning of the second season. Tara’s second season journey has her struggling with who she wants to be and living for a time with Mary Ann, a newcomer to town who seems to incite drunken orgies during her parties.

Tara’s cousin Lafayette is another character with a checkered past. He makes money cooking at Merlotte’s, dancing on his private website, dealing vampire blood, drugs and anything else he can get his hands into. Unfortunately, Lafayette’s bad things are catching up with him after Jason Stackhouse’s girlfriend kills a vampire that worked for Eric and lands Lafayette in the hot seat.

Jason Stackhouse, Sookie’s older brother, is dealing with his own bad things first through sex, then drugs and in season two, he uses religion. He’s trying to fill up all the dark, empty places inside. For every character, Jace Everett’s Bad Things is appropriate for every character.
