The World of the Bold and the Beautiful

CBS daytime introduced the world of the Bold and the Beautiful to viewers on March 23, 1987. Created by William J. Bell and his wife Lee Phillip Bell, the Bold and the Beautiful is the companion show to the Young and the Restless.

Fashion is a huge part of this CBS Soap.

Los Angeles is the setting for The Bold and the Beautiful. The soap begins and ends with high fashion and high drama. The centerpiece of the show is the Forrester family and their company Forrester Creations. For more than two decades, the Forrester family's passions both in the boardroom and the bedroom have entertained the fans.

The Forrester patriarch is Eric (John McCook) who began Forrester Creations with his visionary eye for fashion and wife Stephanie's (Susan Flannery) money. Together, Eric and Stephanie share five children: Ridge, Thorne, Felicia, Kristen and Angela (deceased). Ridge, although raised by Eric, is actually the biological child of Massimo Maroni, a storyline change that upset the balance of power on the show in 2002.

Rick and Bridget are Eric's biological children with former wife Brooke Logan. Brooke originally thought that Ridge was Bridget's biological parent, but this was due to meddling with the paternity test. The Forresters also share many grandchildren including Thomas, Phoebe and Stephanie (Ridge's children), Alexandria (Thorne's daughter), Dino (Felicia's son) and Zende (Kristen's son). Hope Logan, Brooke's daughter with Bridget's former husband Deacon, is considered one of the Forrester grandchildren, though she is not related.

In the world of the Bold and the Beautiful, Katherine Kelly Lang's Brooke Logan is a unique feature. Brooke comes from the middle-class Logan family. Her parents Stephen and Beth along with siblings Storm, Donna and Katie have been deeply intertwined with the Forrester family since the show’s launch.

Brooke’s mother Beth was Eric’s college sweetheart before he became involved with Stephanie. Eric’s deep affection for Beth and her children was a thorn in wife Stephanie’s side. When Beth and Brooke catered a party at the Forrester mansion, Stephanie’s lifelong enmity for Brooke was born.

Over the years, Brooke married Eric, Ridge and Thorne and gave Eric two children (Rick and Bridget). Brooke’s also been involved romantically with two of daughter Bridget’s husbands (Deacon and Nick). Yet, her most compelling storylines are those that explore her explosive relationship with matriarch Stephanie.

Recently, in an effort to rob Brooke of her two youngest children (Hope and Jack), Stephanie arranged for a sleazy lawyer to go after Brooke. She told him where Brooke kept her keys and advised him to not take no for answer. Her actions led directly to the lawyer attacking and raping Brooke in her own home.

Fashion, like romance and family entanglements, provides the cornerstone for The Bold and the Beautiful. Forrester Creations and Spectra Fashions were two rival fashion houses. While Forrester Creations provide haute couture, Spectra Fashions was a cheap knockoff designer. Over the years, their rivalry resulted in Forresters working at Spectra and Sally Spectra trying to take over Forrester Creations.

Brooke Logan’s involvement in Forrester Creations led it down what Stephanie called a ‘slutty’ path with her bedroom line. Who controls Forrester is always a bone of contention, whether its Brooke throwing the Forresters out, Nick Marone taking control or the Forresters banding together to give Brooke the boot.

The world of the Bold and the Beautiful is rich, colorful and filled with drama. The daytime drama is popular in over 100 countries around the world. Bold and the Beautiful is consistently the number two daytime drama in the United States just behind sister show The Young and the Restless. It is the only modern, American daytime drama to remain in the 30 minute format..
