These episode guides are especially helpful for viewers who find themselves hooked on the series midway through season one or season two.

There are a number of websites that provide exceptionally detailed Summerland episode guides. The most popular include:

Getting Hooked on Summerland

It’s easy to understand why Summerland continues to attract viewers despite its cancellation. The series hooks viewers with its dramatic plots and outstanding cast. The show debuts with a horrific tragedy, which robs three children of their beloved parents. Following the death of their mother and father the kids move from Kansas to live with their clothing designer aunt in sunny California. Summerland follows the lives of the uprooted children, their aunt and her three housemates as they struggle to cope with their new living situation and adjust to life as an extended quasi-family.

Adding to the drama is the fact that neither the children’s aunt nor her friends are equipped to handle kids. This fact lends itself to highly charged storylines, which focus on teenage angst and typical adolescent awkwardness. Among the issues examined during Summerland’s run include drug abuse, death and the struggle to balance the demands of a burgeoning career and parenthood.

Summerland’s Star Appeal

Summerland’s all-star cast is another factor in its appeal to viewers:

  • Lori Loughlin. The beautiful actress of Full House fame plays Ava Gregory on Summerland. Ava is a 30-something clothing designer, who struggles to raise her niece and nephews while trying to get her fashion line off the ground.
  • Jesse McCartney. The handsome former All My Children star plays 16-year-old Bradin Westerly, the eldest of the three children. He copes with the loss of his parents by turning to drugs and alcohol. His personal problems and wild child reputation are the focus of many Summerland storylines.
  • Zac Efron. Before becoming a major star in High School Musical, Zac Efron played Cameron Bale, the on-again/off-again boyfriend of 13-year-old Nikki Westerly. Cameron has his own issues to deal with, the least of which is the fact that he is the son of a divorced alcoholic father (portrayed by former 80’s teen heartthrob C. Thomas Howell).
  • Carmen Electra. The gorgeous actress plays Mona on the series. She was romantically involved with Ava Gregory’s housemate and ex-boyfriend Johnny Durrant. But, her appearance on Summerland ended when she was killed in a tragic car crash.
  • Merrin Dungey. The popular actress from the cult hit Alias returns to TV as Susannah Rexford, Ava's best friend, business partner and roommate.

How to Get Your Summerland Fix

International viewers can get their Summerland fix during its current run on television. However, if you live in the United States you will need to purchase the DVD collection to keep up with the Summerland gang. Seasons one and two of the series are available in a boxset at various retailers and online.
