Over the years, many storylines have intrigued fans of looking to find out what is coming next. In the 80s and 90s, that included the soap opera within a soap opera featuring Megan (Viki’s long-lost daughter with Roger Gordon), the underground city of Eterna and the multiple personalities of Viki herself.

In the mid-90s, Marty Saybrooke (then played by Susan Haskell) was raped on the college campus by multiple assailants. She charged Todd Manning with leading the assault, but also implicated Kevin Buchanan (Viki Lord Buchanan’s son). The storyline played out for years on One Life to Live including the trial, the aftermath and the long and twisted road to redemption for Todd and the path of heartbreak and romance for Marty herself.

One Life to Live scoops and spoilers were filled with speculation throughout all aspects of this storyline because Marty herself was no angel. Her lies actually led to the outing of a gay character and the near prosecution of Reverend Carpenter. Todd Manning (played deliciously by Roger Howarth) showed little to no remorse for his actions and persecuted Marty, her attorneys and anyone associated with her for bringing him to trial.

Through the years, Todd himself has undergone a transformation of sorts that Marty contributed to including his near-death experiences and his own rape at the hands of Margaret (something that was pointed out as being poetic justice as Marty’s real name is Margaret). The troubled and often animosity filled relationship between the two characters continues into the 21st century as Todd’s daughter and Marty’s son embark on a romance and Todd and Marty themselves forge an unusual friendship.

One Life to Live Discussion Groups

Discussion groups provide fans of One Life to Live an opportunity to share scoops, spoilers and speculation about the daytime drama. Popular fan sites include:

Vetting Scoops and Spoilers

Daytime dramas are serialized and are meant to be watched day in and day out in order to see storylines build, crescendo and rebuild once again. Most of the dramas airing today, including One Life to Live, have more than two to three decades of history invested in the characters and their storylines. On One Life to Live, Victoria Lord Buchanan and Dorian Cramer Lord have been with the show since the beginning. Their storylines are based as often on their rich history as they are on current events.

Scoops and spoilers are designed to let fans know what is going to happen next and may very well reveal the ‘surprise’ twists that so enticed viewers to the genre in the first place. Learning to decipher what is a valid scoop or spoiler from what is pure speculation requires that fans look at the source of the spoiler, how far in advance the spoiler is posted and whether it matches any other news reports with regard to the soap opera.

For example, a spoiler that indicates events occurring six months from the posting date is likely just speculation as many soap operas are not plotted that far in advance. However, casting changes that state an actor is leaving a show coupled with a spoiler that their character is being killed or written off, may seem genuine. The final judge of a spoilers’ validity is whether it airs on the show or not.
