From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas

Digging up One Life to Live Rumors
The multiple websites for soap operas fall into three categories: news, gossip and fan sites. The news sites may report gossip and rumors, but they will always flag them as such. Gossip sites rarely distinguish between gossip, rumors and news. Gossip sites will usually post their stories as blind type news items using suggestive descriptions so that the reader or fan can infer their own meaning to the details. The third and final type of site is the fan site. Fan sites mix and match news and gossip with what they want to see which is referred to as “fan wanking.”
The Soap Dispenser
The Soap Dispenser is a part of the TV Fanatic network. The site is primarily a news site, but also features recaps, spoilers and other information on your favorite daytime dramas. Rumors and spoilers are markeed as such, balancing fact checking with news reporting.
The site remarks on the fact that One Life to Live is a pseudo spinoff of the now defunct Another World. Agnes Nixon, the head writer of Another World was recruited to create a new soap opera. Nixon would also go on to create OLTL’s sister soap All My Children.
Blog Catalog Searches
Blog Catalog mingles fan and gossip sites together by allowing fans to locate blogs that mention their favorite OLTL characters and rumors. The catalog is not an independent soap opera site, but rather a literal catalog of soap opera blogs, fan sites and news sites that let you the fan track down rumors and more.
Soap Opera Central
Soap Central began life as a fan site, but has evolved into a premier soap opera news site run by soap opera fan and news reporter Dan Kroll. The writers for the site love soaps and spend a lot of time recapping what happened previously on their favorite shows. Interviews and news items are tracked down and verified. Soap Central reports when a One Life to Live rumors are just that, and verifies the rumors as stories when possible.
Telling Fact from Fiction
Rumors by their nature are not necessarily factual. A rumor can be posted anonymously to a soap opera message board and quickly spread like Internet wildfire. Rumors can take on a life of their own. The best way to tell fact from fiction in a rumor is to check valid news sources and sites for confirmation. A rumor that avoids mentioning specific names or citing valid sources is most likely a rumor and not a real news stories.
Rumors about OLTL and any soap may lead actual news stories or casting news due to spoilers and leaks. But not all rumors are spoilers and not all spoilers are news. Use a judicious and wary eye when assessing the source of a rumor.
It’s also a good rule of thumb to not believe everything you read until it’s been verified.
