About Neighbours

Neighbours is an Australian soap opera that follows the trials and tribulations of families who live on Ramsay Street, a cul-de-sac in the fictional town of Erinsborough. It made its debut in 1985, and from the start it followed the path so familiar to most soap operas – its storylines were, and continue to be, rife with subjects involving love affairs, family squabbles and legal issues. Despite this, the show was not overly provocative in its early years, choosing to avoid topics about teenage sex and the like because the program was aired during the early evening. That changed in 2004, however, when edgier storylines began to crop up on television screens. Teenage sex, lesbian love affairs and rape were all fair game, a sign that the program's writers were up to speed with real life issues that people could actually relate to on some level.

In addition to Australia, the program also airs in other parts of the world, including Belgium, Barbados, New Zealand, Ireland and Norway, among others. Many countries are well behind the current schedule, but viewers can enjoy regular updates on the program's official Web site.
