Lynn Herring

From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas

Actress Lynn Herring returned to daytime after a six year absence when she joined long-running CBS soap opera As the World Turns. Love To Know Soap Operas enjoyed an opportunity to chat with Ms. Herring as she prepared for a day of shooting scenes with Colleen Zenk Pinter and former GH cast mate Stuart Damon.

Lynn Herring on Returning to Daytime

With many daytime fans posting their enthusiasm for your return to daytime, did you know how many people missed seeing you every day on television?

Thanks – it makes you feel. The response is so nice. You forget that people are so nice and genuine. It’s been really amazing to hear that people are happy about it. I still get a lot of people asking me why isn’t Lucy back on GH (Lucy Coe, General Hospital)? I would love to go back, but this is a lot of fun too and I’m enjoying the pace, the people.

Can you share a little about your journey towards becoming Audrey Coleman?

I always let it be out there that I was available to go back to GH. After Port Charles was canceled in 2003, I would float the idea past Brian Frons. In a way, I wanted to go back and give the character some closure, but I guess Lucy doesn’t fit in Port Charles anymore because they never called. Then a few months ago, Jess Walton (Jill Abbott), who plays this fabulous character on Young and the Restless was in contract negotiations. It was rumored she might be leaving, so I sort of let it be out there that I was interested in the part.

Of course, it worked out and Jess stayed which is great, but apparently Chris Goutman and Barbara Bloom (Writers and Producers ATWT) heard that I was interested in coming back to daytime and called to offer me a part. It was really just the magic of timing, they wanted to bring on this character and I was ready to come back to work.

You are commuting to New York for filming. A rumor is floating that they extended your stay before you began airing in 2009. How long can fans expect to see you on the show?

This has really been my excellent summer adventure. The initial story was four to six weeks, but they extended for another six weeks because they found some other funny and interesting stuff for Audrey to do. My big hope is that they don’t kill Audrey so that she can come back from time to time to torment Henry (Coleman, Audrey’s son played by Trent Dawson).

Can you tell us a little about Audrey Coleman?

Audrey is a bit of a con-artist and a grifter. She has eight children (eight!), of which Henry is the oldest. I guess two of the other daughters were on and one was a serial killer (Eve Coleman Browning who was trying to frame sister Maddie). There’s a lot of bad blood between Henry and his mother and I’m up to no good, which is always fun.

Audrey Coleman is in town.

Who have you worked with so far?

The show has been really fast-paced screwball comedy with Colleen (Zenk Pinter), Trent (Dawson), Terri (Columbino). I get to film these funny scenes and it’s awesome to come onto the show with a character that is just so much fun. We did not have to spend a lot of time introducing her. I’m done some work with Roger Howarth and he’s really amazing too.

A lot of GH alum are showing up on ATWT including Jon Lindstrom (Craig Montgomery) Stuart Damon and Kin Shriner. Any chance of seeing you with your former leading men on the show?

What I like about Chris Goutman – he’s not doing it as a stunt. Craig and Audrey don’t cross paths right away. He wants to have a meeting; it takes a couple of weeks before they come across each other. You see Craig and Audrey – not Doc and Lucy.

Stuart Damon is coming for 4 weeks as Ralph. He interacts with Julie Pinson (Snyder). Ralph and Audrey are connected over money. He’s the power behind the money. Jon, Stuart and I were on in a scene the other day and we were just looking at each other and laughing.

When I first came to New York, I ended up staying in the same building that Kin stayed in when he was on ATWT a couple of years ago (2006-2007). So he gave me a lot of tips on where to go, to shop and to eat.

One of the really great things about Stuart and I guest-starring this summer is getting Jon some press coverage because some of our single network fans may not know that he’s over here and what a great show that ATWT is.

It sounds like you’re having a great time on the show.

ATWT is a real soap opera with lots of storylines intertwining from the teens to seniors not just A,B, C, D storylines where you always see the A story, but only occasionally see the D. Y&R does a lot of that too where it really weaves the stories in and around all the lives on the show.

Lynn with husband Wayne Northrop.

Lynn on Lynn

Lynn and her husband Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman, Days, ex Rex, PC) are celebrating nearly thirty years of marriage. They live on a cattle ranch in Northern California. Lynn and her family are active in outdoor recreation, sports and animal preservation.

One thing fans miss is Sigmund, Lucy’s duck.

I actually have Sigmund. It’s a girl, but the original Sigmund was a girl too. But I got the duck about two years ago and she looked just like Sigmund so that’s what I named her.

Your boys are growing up, Hank is heading to college. How is the mom in you coping with that?

It’s tough. I think the job is helping. He’s working in Yosemite this summer. With the two of us commuting, we’re easing away from being together day in and day out. He’s an amazing communicator.

Spielberg and Lucas have really endowed USC (University of Southern California) and school encourages double majors so that will be really exciting for him. He had a lot of offers from other states, but he said “Mom, I think I’m a California boy.” So he won’t be too far away.

One Wish for Lucy

If Lynn Herring could get one wish for her characters it would be to come back to GH albeit just briefly to say a proper goodbye to the characters. Rumors began circulating in July of 2009 that the show may be bringing Serena Baldwin back.

Love To Know Soap Operas wants to thank Lynn Herring for chatting with us and welcome her return to daytime with open arms! Herring began appearing as Audrey Coleman on As the World Turns on July 24, 2009.
