Latin Lover Telenovela

Latin Lover telenovela aired on Playboy TV Latin America from 2001 to 2002. The 62 episode series was a joint effort of producers from Venezuala, Peru and the United States.

Latin Lover features the sexcapades of the story's characters.

The show was broadcast on Playboy TV Latin America originally, later appearing on different Latino channels in multiple countries. The plot of the novela follows Rafael Carballo who is directing the novelas within the novela. The show features many simulated sex scenes.

The central male of the program is depicted as very attractive and unable to fend off the multiple women who express their interest in him. He gets into a lot of trouble with his girlfriend and her family. His desire to cast the perfect actress leads to multiple affairs and scandals. A video of him sleeping with one of his potential lead actress ends his relationship with his girlfriend and causes a cascade of problems for the other actors and actresses involved with the program.

Soap operas featuring internal programs or soaps is hardly a new idea. In the 1980s, American daytime drama One Life to Live featured the internal soap opera Fraternity Row. The telenovela Latin Lover takes the concept a step further combining not only the storyline of the actor, director and producers with the storylines of the novela they are creating.

The sexual excapades, filming and love affairs intertwine to create a popular show. In 2009, Latin Lover will be followed up with Latin Lover: Beauty and Ambition.

Andrea Montenegro played the role of Claudia Fuentes. Rafael desperately wanted Claudia to play the lead in his novela. Claudia's love affair with the mechanic Omar ended badly. Claudia eventually goes on to play the key role in the Rafael's telenovela project. This scene shown on the right shows Claudia's tempestuous nature.

Rafael was a bit of lothario. His long-term relationship with Viviana ends after his affair with Renata goes public. The theme of love affair also affects Barbara, Debora, Samuel and more. Unfortunately for the actresses on Latin Lover a rapist begins stalking them, adding another layer to the plot.

As with other telenovelas Latin Lover enjoyed the limited run which tells a novel for television. Soap operas in mini-series format, the telenovela is a popular type of show seen by more than two billion viewers in Latin America, Spain and other areas of the world.
