Amor Real means true love in Spanish. This telenovela, produced by the Televisa, is a remake of the telenovla Bodas de Odio. This 1983 novela featured a song called Amor Real in the opening credits.
Matilde Penalver y Beristain challenges the rules of mid-19th century artistocracy when she falls in love with a soldier: Adolfo. Adolfo Solis is a plain, ordinary man with no fortune. Matilde loves him desperately. She believes that her kind-hearted father will consent to the union, but her mother Augusta is steadfastly opposed.
Apparently Matilde's family faces bankruptcy and her mother plans to marry her off to a wealthy suitor in order to keep the family financially flush. She sets her sights on Manuel Fuentes Guerra. Augusta finds his youth and wealth more than suitable and ignores any troubling information about his background.
As in other telenovelas, Augusta's meddling results in Matilde's love being sent to prison. Matilde is then mislead that Adolfo is already married and a father. Devastated, the young girl gives into her mother's wishes and marries Manuel. Adolfo escapes from prison and troes tp set the record straight. The couple swear their undying love for each other and plan to run away, but Manuel discovers them before they can.
Manuel takes Matilde away to the country. They consummate the marriage despite her unhappiness. Manuel forces her to remain with him although Antonia who also lives in the country house is desperately in love with Maneul. Adolfo continues to search for his love. Ultimately, when Adolfo arrives, the couple must confront the fact that Manuel is a good and decent man. When Matilde and Manuel learn that they have been pawns of Augusta's they try to make their relationship work. Many obstacles stand in their path, but ultimately they find true love with one another.
Amor Real on DVD
In 2005, la novela Amor Real was released on DVD. Unlike other DVD releases of telenovlas, Amor Real featured English subtitles. The series also aired in the United States on Univision.Mexican Telenovelas
