Hairstyles of Soap Opera Actresses
From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas
While hairstyles of soap opera actresses may not seem to be a newsworthy feature, it's a fact that these women influence hairstyles, makeup choices and more. In the last decade, networks have taken advantage of their actresses’ popularity to advertise products from hair care to perfume to jewelry and clothes. Enjoying the styles of the rich and the famous is hardly something new to Americans; they’ve been following the styles and trends in Hollywood for decades.
Great Hairstyles of Soap Opera Actresses
Love the beautiful bob that Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst, General Hospital) sported in 2001? Or is her longer, more luxurious hair of 2007 and 2008 more appealing? Sharon Case’s (The Young and the Restless’ Sharon) cut drew a lot of buzz over the years as it falls around her face beautifully, shorter in the front and sides than thick mane of blonde in the back.
Susan Flannery
The Bold and the Beautiful’s Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester) is another actress whose hair has drawn comments over the years. A few years ago, Flannery forewent the wig she typically wore to reveal the short, spiky white hair that is her own. The hair sharpened Stephanie’s softer edges and gave her a hardier appearance.
The look suited someone who had undergone her characters trials and tribulations, especially with her husband’s (Eric Forrester) constant dalliances with younger women. The look doesn’t require a lot of time spent in the make-up chair, she’s the epitome of a woman whose beauty is more than skin-deep. Stephanie doesn’t need to coif to be who she is and it’s definitely a bold choice for a beautiful woman.
Finola Hughes
Hairstyles can be as distinctive as the actress. For example, Finola Hughes (In Style Network host and Anna Devane of General Hospital) would not quite be the same if her hair were any shorter. During the 80s, Hughes boasted very long hair that was ultra-feminine, a contrast to her very strong, forthright and tough character. More mature these days (and embracing her character grandmotherhood), Hughes’ hair falls below her shoulders and uses a mixture of highlights that convey worldly wisdom yet altogether feminine attractiveness. She’s tough, but she’s got great hair.
Susan Lucci
All My Children’s Erica Kane (Lucci) is synonymous with daytime, an iconic daytime diva in her own right. Erica’s young career began as a model and aspiring actress. A list of great hairstyles of soap opera actresses wouldn’t be complete without her. Erica’s thick black hair fell in long smooth waves around her shoulders when she was younger. It was the perfect hair for twisting up, styling into braids, piling into a more dramatic style. As Lucci has aged, highlights bring out the luster in the hair and it’s gone through more than a few different types of cuts, but Lucci’s style is definitely her own.
Kyra Sedgewick
Kyra Sedgewick may be “The Closer” on TNT these days, but she made her debut on Another World as Julia Shearer. Her thick mane of curls tumbling around her face hasn’t changed in twenty years. It gives a hint of the wild and the whimsical to this remarkable actress whose southern accent can present the belle of the ball or the tough as nails deputy police chief.
Getting Great Soap Hair
Women who want to achieve the same hairstyle as their favorite soap actress need to be ready with combs, hair products and blow dryers. The beauty these women have is incomparable, yet they also benefit from great hairstylists. It’s a great idea to take a few photos in to show the wished for hairstyle, most stylists can advise whether this would be a flattering look..
