EastEnders babes are the women who populate the British soap opera EastEnders. Among the most-watched shows in the United Kingdom, EastEnders debuted in February, 1985. The show focuses on the life and times of characters that live in Albert Square, in the East End of London.

EastEnders Babes in Albert’s Square

Welcome to the East End of London, an area of London also known as Spitalfields, Christ Church and more. The show is set in the fictitious Albert Square in the fictional borough of Walford. The square is dubbed for Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria and the pub in the center is named after the Queen herself.

EastEnders Matriarchs

The matriarchs of EastEnders are the original babes, the women who started the families, worked, raised the children and provide the sound wisdom for their trials and tribulations. Lou Beale, the widow and archetypal matriarch of the Beale/Fowler families was based in large part on creator Tony Holland’s aunt. Lou spoke her mind and her family and neighbors knew better than to get on her bad side. She was well-respected in the community and passed away in her sleep in 1988. Her influence is still felt on the show. Her daughter Pauline Fowler and other women fill the role of matriarch well, by interfering in the lives of their children and their neighbors, but ultimately providing the strong link to the past and the importance of the family.

Angie Watts – One of the owners of the Queen Vic, Angie provided a loud and feisty presence in Albert’s Square. Her tempestuous marriage ended in divorce on Christmas day (an episode watched by 30.1 million) and she died off screen in 2002, from liver cirrhosis.
Kathy Mitchell – Despite being involved in many victimizing storylines, Kathy maintained her fiery spirit. She married twice after a multitude of disastrous relationships and she suffered through two rapes. She finally left Walford to begin a new life and died off screen in 2006.
Sharon Rickman –Sharon enchanted fans for decades beginning with her controversial storyline in the mid-80s as an underage Sharon wanted to get birth control pills in order to attract a boyfriend. The daughter of Den and Angie Watts, Sharon grew up in the pub and engaged in many storylines over the years including finding out that her father got her 16 year old best friend pregnant, marrying one Mitchell boy while carrying on an affair with his brother and more.
Stacey Banning - Stacey arrived a spirited teenager and grew into a feisty woman. A member of the Slater clan, Stacey is enormously popular with fans of EastEnders. Her storylines include drug abuse, mental illness, abortion and a love triangle with her husband and his father.
Janine Evans – Janine was abandoned by her father as a teenager. The character grew up on EastEnders and has been portrayed by many different actresses. She wants the most out of life and is not afraid to play dirty to get it including marrying for money and cheating for fun.
