From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas

A Degrassi the Next Generation episode guide is a quick way to get up to speed on the Canadian soap drama. The fourth series in the Degrassi franchise, the Next Generation premiered in 2001 and began airing its ninth season in 2009.

Locating a Degrassi the Next Generation Episode Guide

The first step in locating a Degrassi the Next Generation episode guide begins with an online search. The popular Canadian drama frequently runs as three to four episode marathons nightly in the U.S. While many of the storylines invite viewers in, it can be hard to figure out what is going on and who is who. An episode guide allows you to start watching the series from any point, but catch up on previous episodes by using the guide’s summaries.

Multiple seasons of Degrassi: The Next Generation are available for purchase at Amazon and other retailers. Fans of the show may even rent episodes via Netflix and other DVD rental options in order to catch up on previous seasons and become current with the show.

Season One

The first season introduces fans to a new generation at Degrassi High: Emma, Manny, Toby, Liberty, J.T. Ashley, Sean, Paige, Terri, Spinner and more. The kids are far more media savvy than their parents, but still face the same pressures and temptations of being a teenager. Season one includes appearances by previous Degrassi stars including Emma’s parents who met in a previous incarnation of Degrassi (and gave birth to Emma on it).

Season Two

The second season expanded the high school and brought new issues to bear for the students. The show’s drama and intensity ratcheted up to include date rape, child abuse, eating disorders and racism.

Season Three

In season 3, the show tackles the hot button of Manny’s pregnancy. She turns to Emma’s mom Spike for advice. Emma’s mother became pregnant at age 14 with daughter Emma, so she understands and empathizes with Manny’s fears. The episode explores the multiple layers of drama surrounding teen pregnancy in a no-holds barred drama that kept the episode from airing in the United States.

Season Four

The fourth season matured the characters and the situations they encountered including Paige facing down her rapist in court and later destroying his car. Craig coped with bipolar and Emma suffered from an STD. Like other teen dramas, Degrassi also took on the school shooting that left a mark on the characters forever.

Seasons Five through Nine

The maturation of the cast and the characters continued in season five as Liberty and J.T. struggle with her pregnancy and how it strains their friendship and relationship. Season six and seven confronted internet stalkers, relationships and more as well as yet another pregnancy scare, this time for Emma. By season eight, many of the original characters graduated or moved on allowing a new crop of Degrassi students to take front and center with their own struggles.
