The Canadian drama Degrassi began in the 1980s, following a group of teens who lived on De Grassi Street in Toronto, Canada. Long before Beverly Hills, 90210, Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill, the Degrassi series has tackled teen drama successfully for four series. The first, The Kids of Degrassi Street was followed by Degrassi Junior High and later Degrassi High. A few years lagged between Degrassi High and the launch of Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001.

By 2006, Degrassi was appearing in regular syndication in the United States and other countries. The drama airs on TeenNick and The N in the U.S. with regular marathons airing in the late evenings. Unafraid to tackle the tough storylines, the show has featured everything from drug abuse to school shootings to teen pregnancy and more.

Spoilers such as those teasing Mia’s (Nina Dobrev) exit from the show help fans prepare for the loss of some favorites while preparing for the arrival of others. Mia’s exit was especially poignant as the teenage mom went through the wringer through her several seasons on the show. Dobrev left to pursue other acting opportunities such as a starring role on the The Vampire Diaries.
