Coronation Street is set in a fictional town (as most soaps are) and focuses on the lives and goings on of the families that reside in the Coronation street neighborhood which includes Viaduct, Victoria and Rosamund streets. Some of the cast members that first appeared on the show in 1960 remain as a part of the current cast. Here's the rundown of the current cast of Coronation St and the year in which each cast member first appeared on the show:

William Roache - Ken Barlow (1960)
Eileen Derbyshire - Emily Bishop (1961)
Barbara Knox - In 1964, Knox played the role of Rita Littlewood, who is now known as Rita Sullivan. After a hiatus, Knox reprised the role in 1972 and currently remains on the show.
Betty Driver - Elizabeth Preston-Williams (1969)
Anne Kirkbride - Dierdre Anne (1972)
Helen Worth - Gail Potter (1974)
Elizabeth Dawn - Veronica Duckworth (1974)
Maggie Jones - An on again/off again character from 1974-1998. In 1999, she took on Patricia Cutts role of Blanche Hunt and has been a permanent fixture on the show since.
Sue Nichols – Audrey Potter-Robers (1979)
William Tarmey - An on-again/off-again character, Tarmey made appearances on the soap in 1979 and 1981. He joined the cast permanently in 1983 as Jack Duckworth.
Michael Le Vell - Kevin Webster (1983)
Peter Armitage – Armitage played the role of Bill Webster from 1984-1985. The character then left the show, not to return until 1995, leaving again 1997. Armitage returned to the show in 2006.
Sally Whittaker - Sally Seddon-Webster (1986)
Tina O'Brien - Sarah-Louise Tinsley-Platt (1999)
Beverly Callard - Began playing the role of Elizabeth Jane McDonald in 1989 only to leave and return multiple times. She returned permanently in 2004.
Simon Gregson - Steve McDonald (1989)
Helen Flanagan - Rosie Webster (2000)
Jack P. Shepherd - David Platt (2000)
Malcolm Hepden – Played the role of Norris Cole from 1994-1997. He returned to the show in 1999.

Jane Danson – Leanne Aneka (1997-2000). Rejoined the cast in 2004.
