The Forrester family is the central focus, with the Logans running a close second for the most interesting the Bold and the Beautiful updates and spoilers. For many years, the only Logan on the canvas was Brooke as her family members came and went, but more recently Donna and Katie Logan made a splash themselves played by alumni from sister soap The Young and the Restless. The addition of Don Diamont (another Y&R alum) as Bill Spencer Jr. brought the Spencers back from virtual oblivion where they resided when fan favorite Caroline Spencer (played by Joanna Johnson) passed away and later her long-lost twin sister Karen came and went.

The character of Caroline Spencer was so influential in the early years of the show that she continues to be used as a prop for current storylines particularly the unending triangle between Brooke, Taylor and Ridge which Caroline’s death spawned.

Daytime Emmy Winners

The cast of The Bold and the Beautiful has been nominated more than once in many of the categories for the Daytime Emmys. Actress Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester) won the accolade for lead actress four times, three for her role as Stephanie Forrester and once for her role as Laura Horton on Days of Our Lives. In 2009, the show won its first ever Best Drama award beating out Days of Our Lives and All My Children with a reel that included the shocking suicide of Storm Logan so that his heart could be transplanted into sister Katie.

30 Minute Format

When The Bold and the Beautiful debuted in 1987, the 30 minute length was not uncommon. Other daytime soaps such as Ryan’s Hope and later Port Charles were also 30 minutes long. Over the years, many rumors have cropped up regarding the idea that the show would expand to an hour long format in order to increase the canvas size and the number of storylines being told. As of 2009, the 30 minute format seems tailor-made for the daytime drama and the show runners do not appear to be planning to change that any time in the future.
