British actor Marcus Patric was born Patrick Henry Gosling in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England on August 17, 1979. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of hunky Ben Davies in Hollyoaks, a popular British soap opera that he joined in August 2000. Later, he joined the program's spinoffs, Hollyoaks: Let Loose and Hollyoaks: In the City, respectively.

Ben proved quite a popular character for fans of the program. He made his debut as the village's handsome fireman, and drew instant admiration from several of the local Hollyoaks ladies. This, coupled with his ever-flirtatious ways, led to a string of sordid affairs throughout the years. Ben earned a reputation as something of a real ladies' man. As with so many soap opera characters, this earned Ben years and years of intriguing storylines – some disastrous, some brow-raising, but always completely memorable.

No soap opera would be complete without those jaw-dropping moments that make viewers cringe. As one of the village's leading heartthrobs, Ben Davies spent his time playing the old love 'em and leave 'em game, dealing with sudden deaths, sleeping with his father's colleague and even getting engaged to one woman after impregnating another. It's just another day in the life of a Hollyoaks character! Here is a rundown of some of Ben's more intriguing moments.

It all started with Cindy Cunningham, Ben's first paramour in the village. The relationship was short-lived; Cindy left to start a new life in Spain. Soon it was on to Mandy Richardson, his best friend's ex-girlfriend. Eventually his best friend found out about the two, which caused a temporary breakup between the two men. They patched up soon enough, but Ben's feelings for Mandy faded eventually. This led to Ben's adventurous period as the village lothario – he bedded anyone who would listen!

In between the usual relationships and antics surrounding them, Ben was also involved in a number of rather tempestuous affairs. He commenced a relationship with his father's colleague at the police station, Dale Jackson, after she came to live in the family's home. Though at first he loathed her presence in the house, it wasn't long before he ended up in bed with Dale! It also wasn't long before his father caught the two of them in action. This torrid affair was short-lived, as Dale eventually left the village.

Of course, Dale's exit left a need for a replacement at the police station. Ben immediately seduced the new entry, Emma Chambers, when she arrived in the village. Their one-night stand resulted in her pregnancy, a truth Ben refused to acknowledge because he was engaged to Izzy Cornwell by then. Eventually Izzy found out the truth too, but moved forward with the wedding despite being shocked by the revelation.

When Emma's son, Arthur, was born, Ben had a sudden change of heart and became involved in the baby's life. Unfortunately, Izzy could not handle this, and Ben severed ties with his son to save his marriage. Emma and Arthur thus left Hollyoaks, but Izzy and Ben's marriage did not survive the tumult – they were over.

The other major affair in Ben's life was with Lisa Hunter, the younger sister of his best friend, Dan, who was killed in a car explosion. Though Lisa was considerably younger and Ben felt it wouldn't be appropriate, circumstances eventually led to a relationship. They were publicly denounced by numerous people, including Lisa's family, and eventually left Hollyoaks together for good.

Ben and Lisa weren't missing from television screens for long. They next appeared in Hollyoaks: Let Loose, a spinoff of the original program. In it, the two set out to create a new life for themselves in London, meeting various people and encountering various relationship troubles along the way. They survived the many turbulences, which led to Hollyoaks: In the City, which picked up where Let Loose left off.

In this series, Ben and Lisa reside in Liverpool. A number of troubling events wreak havoc in their lives, including murder, infidelity and a resounding finale in which Lisa accidentally shoots and kills Ben. The program was canceled, but Marcus Patric has announced that it is slated to return in June 2009. It wouldn't be complete without at least one scene with Ben from Hollyoaks, and indeed Patric will appear in one episode.
