All My Children Soap Opera
From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas
Agnes Nixon’s All My Children soap opera launched on January 5, 1970. The show is set in the fictitious town of Pine Valley, Pennsylvania. The show features well-known daytime actress Susan Lucci in her signature role of Erica Kane.
About All My Children Soap Opera
The Chandlers, the Cooneys, the Cortlandts, the Martins and the Kanes are the Pine Valley resident families that viewers tune in day after day. In 2008, the show aired its 10,000th episode. Agnes Nixon worked as the head writer on The Guiding Light when she conceived the idea for All My Children. She tried to pitch the show to NBC and CBS before finding a home for it on ABC.
Nixon’s All My Children focused on topical and in the news stories. Erica Kane’s controversial abortion in 1973 because she didn’t want to ruin her figure or her modeling career not only snagged headlines, but marked a daytime first that even retconning in the early part of the 21st century can’t change.
Margo Flax Martin played by actress Eileen Letchworth got a significant face lift when her portrayer did the same. This storyline incorporated the major surgery because it would significantly change the actress’ physical look. Margo wanted the face lift because she wanted to catch the interest of a younger man.
Golden Times in the 80s
By the 1980s, All My Children hit its stride with the introduction of numerous younger characters and expanding families. The love story of Nina Cortlandt (Taylor Miller) and Dr. Cliff Warner (Peter Bergman) enchanted viewers. The doomed love story of Jenny and Greg left fans mourning when a bomb meant for Greg ended Jenny’s life. Jesse Hubbard and future wife Angie charmed fans and the irracisble Tad Martin with his good looks and easy charm wandered in and out of the most eligible beds in town, only to fall head over hills for a Palmer Cortlandt’s country bred niece Dixie.
As Erica Kane matured throughout the 1980s, the indomitable Princess of Pine Valley came into her own. Despite her many husbands, Erica’s true love appeared on the screen in the late 1980s when her daughter Bianca was born.
AMC’s Great Couples
Great couples that have enchanted fans over the decades include:
Erica Kane and Her Men
Erica’s many marriages include Adam Chandler, Travis Montgomery, Tom Cudahy, Dr. Jeff Martin and many, many more. Her lives and lovers are always popular.
Cliff Warner and Nina Cortlandt
Nina Cortlandt was the apple of overprotective father Palmer’s eye. When she fell in love with Dr. Cliff Warner, Palmer did everything he could to sabotage the relationship. He eventually conceded to fate, however, and the couple were married in a lavish ceremony before relocating to Chicago.
Jesse and Angie Hubbard
Jesse was a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks and Angie had a promising future. Jesse’s devotion to his best friend Tad and Tad’s sister Jenny Gardner contributed to Angie’s affections. Their love story is one for the ages that ended abruptly with Jesse’s death in 1988. Angie raised their son solo until they re-united in 2008 when Jesse revealed that he was still alive.
Tad and Dixie Martin
Their totally unorthodox relationship included Tad’s courtship of the country girl who was being used by the very wealthy Adam Chandler. The tycoon impregnated the impressionable girl to get himself an heir. After she gave birth, he set out to drive her insane and get her committed. Tad saved her and helped reunite the young mother with her son. When he proposed in a chicken suit, Dixie and Tad’s romance survived presumed deaths on the part of both Tad and Dixie.

-- Contributed by: HVLongI would like to acquire the script from the portions of the show that dealt with the story line involving Janet and Natalie and the abduction into a pit. Thanks. DJH
