From LoveToKnow Soap-Operas

AMC soap spoilers explore what could happen on the ABC daytime drama All My Children. Scoops and spoilers provide both fact and rumor based news items on popular soap focused websites from Soap Central to Soap Opera Digest.

Exploring AMC Soap Spoilers

In May of 2009, AMC soap spoilers lit up various fan websites and news sites with the worry that All My Children would be killing off the iconic Erica Kane played by daytime and AMC veteran Susan Lucci. Reportedly one of the highest paid stars on daytime, the death of La Lucci’s signature character could help the daytime drama tighten its purse strings. Many shows felt the ax in the 2008-2009 television season, due in no small part to financial reasons.

Lucci’s Erica is not the only character that faced a threat. Spoilers listed David Canary’s Adam Chandler and Michael E. Knight’s Tad Martin as other potential victims. Fans were desperately worried about these three veteran characters and actors. Too often in the past, veteran actors on AMC faced reduced air time to make room for younger, cheaper newcomers; a situation that is bitterly resented by most soap opera fans.

The Proof is in the Pudding

As with many All My Children soap spoilers, the rumored death of a veteran did occur but with a twist. The victim of an assassin’s bullet turned out to be David Canary’s character Stuart Chandler, the twin brother to his lead character Adam Chandler. Canary is a five time Emmy winner for his portrayal of the Chandler twins. Stuart, the kind and gentle artist who’s love affair with Cindy melted hearts and the Adam, the ruthless businessman who had Dixie committed in order to get custody of their son Adam Jr.

The death of Stuart is indeed the death of a legacy character, but AMC will not lose any of its veteran actors. In fact, while some fans mourned the move, other fans cheered at the prospect of David Canary moving off the backburner (where he seemed stuck since late 2007, early 2008). Of course, the question of murder always brings about a who done it and more AMC soap spoilers and speculation.

Grains of Salt

All soap spoilers should be taken with a grain of salt whether published by a reputable news site or found on some obscure fan page. The spoiler of death of a lead character on All My Children in May 2009 is a classic example of network misdirection. Fans worried that their favorites might face the chopping block because of financial reasons, but the network was able to deliver on its promise by killing a Stuart, yet keeping Adam.

The Twin Twist

The death of Stuart Chandler on AMC is not the first time a twin’s death mislead fans of a soap opera favorite’s death. Most notably in the early 80s on Days of Our Lives, the Salem Strangler broke into Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) apartment and murdered her. Fans feared the worst, but it was soon revealed that it was Marlena’s twin Samantha that the Strangler killed and not Dr. Evans herself.
